Supporting
Progressive Filmmakers
For Urban VOICE to succeed as a film production company through
the skills of its interns and volunteers, it is imperative that
we provide an entrepreneurial and supportive environment. This atmosphere
must encourage our members to hone their skills using our resources
and other means towards increasing their creative and practical
knowledge.
Lastly, we must provide financial incentives to exceptional individuals
through our professional service bureau – a low cost video
service to individuals, organizations and corporations. The need
for financial assistance is critical particularly in a region as
expensive as the San Francisco Bay Area. This service also provides
a level of self sustainment for Urban VOICE.
While the quantity of filmmakers has multiplied far beyond commercial
demands in the San Francisco Bay Area, the need for independent
films on social justice remains extremely high. Unfortunately, the
cost in producing a film has remained prohibitive for most organizations
working in social justice. We see this as a twofold opportunity
because we are capable of:
| 1) |
producing high quality films inexpensively through our filmmakers
and support staff |
| 2) |
providing professional-level work for our filmmakers to increase
their experience. |
Individuals accepted into our organization must commit to three criteria:
| 1) |
provide their skills as unpaid apprentices on one of our social
justice video projects |
| 2) |
advance their skills through an independent project using
our resources and equipment |
| 3) |
participate in cooperative training so that the group and
the individual become stronger. |
